Recently, McDonald’s published the 2012 Global Best of Green, our third catalogue of some 90 leading environmental best practices that make our restaurants, and our business, more sustainable.
This year, we collaborated with outside experts from Business for Social Responsibility, Ceres, Conservation International and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to select the “best of the best” across all eight categories included in the report: Energy, Packaging, Anti-littering, Recycling & Waste Reduction, Logistics, Communications, Greening our Restaurants and Greening the Workplace.

Recently, we released our 2012 Best of Sustainable Supply. It’s a collection of the “best of the best” innovative sustainable sourcing programs in the McDonald’s supply chain, covering topics such as Climate/Energy, Animal Welfare, Employee Wellness and more.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that we can’t achieve our sustainability goals alone. In no area is this more important than in our supply chain. That’s why we work with suppliers who share our values and vision for sustainable sourcing along three foundational areas of impact: Ethical, Environmental and Economic.

I just heard that Paulo Adario of Greenpeace Brazil was honored earlier this month as a United Nations Forest Hero. Being familiar with Paulo and his work to protect the Amazon, I am so thrilled to hear this news.

Today, McDonald’s made an announcement which outlines further actions we plan to take to help end the use of gestation stalls for sows (mothers of baby pigs) in the U.S.
This action builds upon our long track record of leadership in overall sustainability efforts.
